The fantastic news is that everything is running on schedule, if not a little ahead, with the construction of our new distribution centre.
The steel is going up quickly, and so far 8 out of the 22 bays are up – meaning that just over a third of it has been erected. Seeing the framework go up is making the scale of the building a reality, and trust us it feels huge (although no doubt we will soon fill it!).
This week we will also start to see scaffolding going up on the office section, which will allow contractors to start concreting and cladding the offices. The priority now is to get the offices water tight as quickly as possible as the building work involved in this section is more intricate than the rest.
Away from site, we have awarded the contracts for the forklifts and racking and are working with both companies to finalise the warehouse layout. Our Operations Team are busy getting stuck into looking at system changes, zoning options etc.
We are also beginning to select office finishes and furniture – so we can actually start to picture us all moving in! There’s a lot to think of, but it is all very exciting.
Stay tuned for more progress updates shortly!
The 108,000 sq ft warehouse and office complex will see central operations of Charlies move from Newtown, home to our HQ for over 30 years, to Offa’s Dyke Business Park just outside Welshpool. The move will open up even more opportunities for growth for Charlies, which is currently one of the largest independent retailers in Wales.
