Very exciting times here at Charlies HQ (both existing and soon-to-be new HQ!) as the steel is going up!
The building of our new headquarters is coming along at a steady pace with the steel frame being installed this week. For the first time we can see the skeleton of the building and it’s scale (it’s looking great!).
The steel frame currently being put up is for the offices, which will take until the middle of this week to complete, including putting in the stairs.
The steel will then start arriving for the warehouse portion of the building. In total, steel erection should take 6 weeks to complete.
The team on site are busy digging holes for the drainage system. In one drain alone there is 30m of pipe to be fitted.
Off site, we have selected the racking company to supply and rack the warehouse with nearly 10,000 euro pallet spaces and 7,000 standard pallet spaces! This level of warehousing requires some very technical kit, so we have also placed orders for new forklift trucks and picking machines (a cross between a forklift and a cherry picker).
The time is flying by and it’s amazing to think that in just 4 weeks time, we should see cladding start to go up – a 10 week process that will reveal the finished look of the building – we’ll keep you posted!
The 108,000 sq ft warehouse and office complex will see central operations of Charlies move from Newtown, home to our HQ for over 30 years, to Offa’s Dyke Business Park just outside Welshpool. The move will open up even more opportunities for growth for Charlies, which is currently one of the largest independent retailers in Wales.
