Our headquarters and distribution centre is really starting to shape up!
With the completion of the steel frame, our contractors could immediately begin work on the installation of the roof and wall cladding. The cladding started at the office end of the building as this was the priority to be water tight. We can see that just over 50% of the building has been clad and it looks great so far!
Two dock levellers (these bridge the gap between a lorry’s load space and the warehouse floor) have been installed and the precast concrete in the docking area has been completed, so it’s starting to really shape up as a distribution centre.
The bricklayers are currently on site building the office partitions, which means we can now get a strong sense of the work space in this section of the build. While HQ staff are all excited to find out where they’ll be located in the new building, we can all agree that, from the offices, we’ll be sharing stunning views of the valley, looking north towards Pool Quay and the Breidden.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be continuing with blockwork, cladding and fitting glazing into the offices. In the new year the focus will be on the mechanical and electrical fit out, which will include installing hundreds of miles of cabling!
Overall, the build is progressing well and still on track for a finish date of of 9th April.
Stay tuned for more progress updates shortly!
The 108,000 sq ft warehouse and office complex will see central operations of Charlies move from Newtown, home to our HQ for over 30 years, to Offa’s Dyke Business Park just outside Welshpool. The move will open up even more opportunities for growth for Charlies, which is currently one of the largest independent retailers in Wales.
