When the weather can’t quite make its mind up, the Shires Tempest Original 50 Turnout Rug is a dependable choice for spring and autumn turnout. Designed for mild but wet conditions, this lightweight turnout rug offers just enough warmth to take the chill off, without risking overheating on those damp, muggy days.
With a 50g polyfill, this rug creates a helpful buffer between the fully lined interior and the outer fabric, reducing condensation and keeping your horse comfortable when humidity rises. The 600 denier ripstop outer is tough enough for daily turnout, while the ShireTex® fabric technology and 3000mm waterproof rating keep rain firmly on the outside. At the same time, a 3000g/m² breathable finish helps excess heat and moisture escape, so your horse stays dry underneath.
Practical, no-nonsense features make it easy to live with at the yard. The adjustable buckle chest straps allow a secure, tailored fit, while adjustable cross surcingles help keep the rug sitting neatly in place. A fillet strap and tail flap provide extra coverage and stability, ideal for blustery field conditions. Finished with taped seams and a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR) coating, it’s a rug you can trust through changeable weather.
Available in pony sizes, this turnout rug is also WarmaRug compatible, meaning you can boost warmth later in the season by adding a 100g or 200g liner without changing the outer rug. Made from 100% polyester (excluding fittings), it’s straightforward to care for and built for everyday use.

We are pleased to offer FREE standard delivery when you spend over £75. For next day delivery, order before 6pm and select next working day delivery at the checkout.
If your order is under £75, a small delivery charge of £3.99, £5.99 or £9.95 will apply depending on the size and weight of the order.
Big and bulky items may be delivered in a couple of different ways:
On a pallet (kerbside only) - our courier will contact you to organise a day you'll be home for delivery.
With a 2-person delivery service - our friendly team will contact you to book in a delivery day of your choice.
Some items come straight from our suppliers and may take a little longer to arrive. If that’s the case, we’ll make sure it’s clearly shown on the product page.
Returns
We really hope you love what you ordered, but if you change your mind, you’ve got 28 days from the day you bought it to return it.
Please make sure the item is unused and in its original packaging with any tags and labels attached. Please pop a note inside with your name and order details on it so we can locate your order.
We don’t offer free returns as we try to keep our prices as low as possible for everyone, depending on the size of the return we will deduct the cost from your refund. The returns process is really easy, you can post it back yourself or we can help you arrange a collection.
Once your return reaches our warehouse we'll process the refund back to your original payment method.
