It's that time of the year again and the forecast is full of rain clouds, so its time to dust off your wellies or treat yourself to a new pair to keep your feet dry and protected from mud. Although wellies tend to be neglected and left covered in mud or left outside in the cold, but the more you care for your wellies the longer they will last. There are many benefits to proper wellie care, it means your wellies will last longer, prevent leaks and keep your feet protected.

Wellies tend to not to have a great longevity due to the soft natural rubbers that they are made out of that allows flexibility, this handy guide will ensure you can get the most out of your boots and keep them in the best condition for as long as possible.

1. Keep Your Boots Clean

An obvious one to start with but after wearing your wellies, its easy to kick them off and leave them covered in mud especially if you know you're going to get them muddy the next time you wear them. This could be shortening the life of your boots though! The best time to clean them is when the mud is still wet and can easily be rinsed off, use a hose or outside tap but if you don't have these dunk them in a bucket and sponge them off. There are even handy products such as the boot brush stand that can make cleaning your wellies even easier.

2. Give Them Some Care

Boots can get dry and cracked, a special rubber care sponge or rubber boots spray is the perfect option for elongating the life of your boots and keep them looking pristine and fresh. Some wellingtons may also appear to have a white powder on the surface, this is a normal process with natural rubber but can be helped by keeping them clean and using rubber cleaning products.

3. Taking Them Off

Taking your boots off can also cause unnecessary stress on your boots which can lead to splitting, using a boot jack is the best way to take your wellies off and also takes the strain off you.

4. Storing Your Boots

It can be easy to leave your boots in a mess where you took them off, but storing your boots properly will help preserve your boots for longer and can also help to keep your house clean. A boot stand or tray is the perfect option for storing your boots properly and keeping them safe inside.

5. Boot Bag

A boot bag can help to keep your boots even more protected, particularly when on the move. This will also help with keeping them out of the sunlight, plus it will make them easy for carrying about.
