Fresh Air, Fewer Gatecrashers: Tips for Open-Door Days

Give your doorway insect curtain or strip blind a helping hand with these simple summer habits.

Measure before you choose
Check the width and height of your doorway, then compare them with the curtain or blind dimensions. A suitable fit helps minimise gaps around the edges where insects could enter.

Give your curtain room to hang
Follow the fitting instructions and check that the curtain hangs freely. Keep nearby furniture, plant pots and other obstacles clear so the strands or strips can settle back into place after you pass through.

Keep tempting treats covered
Fruit, sweet drinks and food scraps can attract flying insects. Cover food where practical, wipe up spills and keep bins closed to make your home less inviting to unwanted guests.

Make it part of your warm-weather routine
Doorway insect curtains are particularly useful when you want to leave a door open for ventilation. Check yours before the first warm spell so it’s ready for sunny afternoons and trips between the house and garden.

Check in after a busy day
If your doorway gets plenty of foot traffic, take a moment to straighten any tangled strands or displaced strips. Follow the product’s care instructions to keep your curtain or blind clean and ready for the next open-door day.
